October 2008

bummer

no hits, no win.
chills in the air - long winter ahead- sleep before midnight.
easy to get spoiled these past few years.
Go Sox - when do 2009 seats go on sale?

Well that was a good one.

But first - no TV - we're watching Steve Harvey - what?  I'm sorry - do these people not have a downtime plan? Showing Steve Harvey was the downtime plan? - heck - do what we did - broadcast the radio! So yes that's what we did do - found a radio of course that was our downtime plan - thank goodness for the Red Sox Radio Network. As MLB online was blacked out for us... Kept the radio on when the game finally came on - but the radio is like 5 seconds ahead of the TV - so it's like opening Christmas presents early - you know what happens before it does.

Varitek - captain comes through - nice to see that - not the hero I would have expected. And Josh did in fact Cowboy Up - not vintage Beckett - but got the job done and we live for another day.  Ends a little after 12 - not too bad.

Lester on the mound tonight - Vegas has to be picking the Sox to win - as am I - it will be a red on red series.  Cold in NE now - it will be a chilly red on red World Series.   Go Sox.!

That is why we Love this Team.

"And the Red Sox win 8-7. Can you believe it?"

What can you say except - THAT is why we love this team.  Is it over? It's never over and it is never easy and that is why year after year, season after season, we love this team and we keep coming back for more.

My brother was at Game 4 against the Yankees when the Sox began the 04 miracle.  Last year my husband and I saw the Clay Buchholz no-hitter.  Last night my nephew drove to Providence to pick up friends, then up to Boston - arrived when the Sox were down 5-0 and had an experience he will never forget - THAT is why we love this team.  (And don't you know the phone rang at 6:45 this morning so my sister-in-law could tell me that?  Yes, we are Red Sox fans.)

I had the opportunity to be a guest on the 'Corn, Gordon and Flanagan on the Red Sox' Podcast this week - very fun interview - check it out here: http://corngordon.mypodcasts.net/ . They are the Best Red Sox Podcast on the web and I hope to join them again during their World Series chats!

Go Sox - Cowboy up Josh.

And the Sox take Game 1.

Geesh - How important was that win?

Daisuke = excellent performance. But he does make your blood pressure go up from time to time.  A study in how to react under presure that one gives every game.

Bullpen = another excellent performance. Shut Them Down!

Tampa Bay Rays - OK things I wonder about:

Are they the only team named after a body of water?

Are the cowbells free or do the fans have to buy them?  In Fenway we don't need bells - Sox fans (myself included) are LOUD.

Why the cowbells - I've been to St Pete over a dozen times - never saw a cow?

Why did they lose the Devil in their name?

Lots of new Tampa fans there it seems - never seen that ballpark so full - but it looked like the Nation was well represented!

On to game 2 - is Beckett ready? I'm betting, yes.

Predictions:

Sox in 6 - change it to 5 if Beckett wins today.

Daisuke is the World Series MVP.

Start is 8:07 - how good is that - but where are Don and Remdawg?

Sox in 4

Sox in four - sending LA home in fine fashion. A little tense  there in the 9th but excellent baseball - glad there is no return ticket to LA needed for the Sox.

Players of the game - could it be Bay - should it be Manny DelCarmen for his excellent pitching to close the game? (And we met him and have his autograph!)  Varitek hits and makes a great play and Pedroia hits as well - time to bring on the Rays.  Lester's pitching - is outstanding a strong enough adjective?

Prediction - Sox in 6 over the Rays - at least these games are at home - but productivity in NE once again declines due to those 4:00 starts - don't these people making the schedule know we're working!?

Bring it on - with a few bonus days thrown into catch up on our sleep!

Sox up 2-0 and heading home

Enough of these late night west coast games.

Sox take game 2 - always exciting with Daisuke on the mound, no?

Bay and Drew
Got us through
...sounds like the first line from the 2008 Red Sox season highlight album.

On to Fenway on Sunday - will be a chilly evening of baseball with a reasonable start time - productivity increases all over New England Monday morning.

Beckett on the mound - shut them down, close the book, punch their ticket home - pick a metaphor and make it so.

Sox take game one.

Last night in CT featured rain, dropping temperatures, the rumble of thunder and late night playoff baseball.

'View from CT" player of the game has to be Jon Lester who pitched a great game. Kudos to Masterson for pitching a sharp 8th inning. Jason Bay matched Manny's post-season HR production to date this year to put the Sox ahead for good in the 6th.  Quote of the evening goes to Papelbon who said of Bay "In this game, the coolest cat always wins. It's that simple."

Game 2 with Daisuke getting the start is Friday night with a slightly earlier start - Red Sox Nation members have the opportunity to attend what sounds like a pretty cool watch party at Fenway:

"You are invited to an exclusive, citizens-only ALDS viewing party at Fenway Park on Friday, October 3! Join your RSN Vice President Rob Crawford and Massachusetts Governor Jared Carrabis in the State Street Pavilion to watch the Red Sox take on Anaheim. Admission is FREE, the World Series trophies will be on hand. There will also be prizes given away throughout the
game including a pair of tickets to Game 3 of the ALDS at Fenway Park. Food, soft drinks, beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Space is limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Please RSVP for yourself and one (1) guest by Thursday at 5 p.m. EDT to redsoxnation@redsox.com. Please bring your e-mail confirmation to Fenway to be admitted to the event."
